Women’s soccer wins big

The Lady Lions’ soccer team won their first game of the 2014 season on Sept. 9 in an impressive fashion, outscoring Mount Ida by a tally of 9-0.

Here are some facts worth mentioning from the lopsided win:

  • Tayllar Righini, the leading scorer from last season, did not score at all, while juniors Mollie Coyne and Alyssa Giannone and freshman Gabi Galvin scored two goals each.

  • The nine goal margin was the largest in a victory since a 10-0 victory against Anna Maria in 2011.

  • The Lions scored six of their nine goals in the first half, recording 13 shots on goal and converting an alarming 46 percent of them.

  • It was a slow day in goal for keeper Melanie Escobar, who saved only three shots the entire game.

  • Galvin’s two second half goals were her first and second collegiate goals.

The Lady Lions look to build momentum on their first win in another non-conference tilt against University of Maine Farmington on Sept 13.
