The Emerson’s men’s soccer team received the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award for the second year in a row on Wednesday.
The NEWMAC also named junior Adam Halliday, a midfielder on the team, to an honorary all-conference team.
Junior captain Mitchell Lapierre, a marketing communication major, said he wasn’t surprised by the awards.
“We’ve always been really composed on the field, and respectful of our teammates, our opponents, and the referees,” said the defender. “We do hold our level of competitiveness very high, but it seems as though getting this award two years in a row is almost motivation to get recognized for other reasons.”
Halliday attends Berklee College of Music, which does not have an athletics program, and is able to play on Emerson’s team through a special partnership between the two colleges. He was the only member of an Emerson fall sport to be named to an all-conference team, and he led the NEWMAC in shots.
“[Halliday] is great to play on the field with. He works so hard and is always so into the game,” said Lapierre. “He definitely raises the level of competition to where it needs to be, and we all try to model our skills and determination after him.”
