SGA offers revisions for diversity perspective classes

The Student Government Association discussed proposed revisions for both the United States and global diversity perspective classes on Tuesday.

Faculty Assembly discusses mental health

Sylvia Spears, vice president for diversity and inclusion, and Robert Amelio, director of diversity and inclusive excellence, presented on Emerson’s Bias Response Program at a faculty assembly on Tuesday. Sharon Duffy also presented with Emerson’s Care, Assessment, Response and Engagement team.

Diversity in Departments: WLP creates culture-focused courses

The writing, literature, and publishing department continues to advance cultural competency efforts as a result of the Faculty Assembly’s ad hoc Cultural Competency Task Force. According to Maria Koundoura, the department chair, the movement to make the curriculum more diverse has been in the process for a while.

College leases space in nearby Park Plaza building

Emerson has entered a lease on about 20,000 square feet of office space in the 20 Park Plaza building in preparation for the 2017-2019 closure of the Little Building for renovation.

Student advocates for better campus wi-fi

An Emerson sophomore created a Facebook group entitled “Emerson WiFi: We Insist Faster Internet” to advocate for better wireless on Emerson’s campus.

New VP and Dean to start at college in July

Dr. James Hoppe, who will begin working as Emerson’s vice president and dean of campus life in July, said he hopes to connect with students in his new role at the college.

College continues to address issues of cultural competency

President M. Lee Pelton sent an email to the Emerson community on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day outlining the college’s goals to continue diversity efforts.

Administration to assess alcohol and drug policy

The Alcohol and Other Drugs task force held its first meeting on Wednesday to consider changing the communication surrounding Emerson’s AOD practices, particularly surrounding medical amnesty.
