In the Student Government Association’s first meeting of the year, three members were unanimously appointed to positions.
Emma Friend, a junior political communication major, was appointed sustainability commissioner.
“I’m very passionate about environmentalism and sustainability,” Friend told the group.
She added that she has met with the college’s sustainability coordinator, Eric Van Vlandren, and discussed the possibility of eliminating plastic bags in the C-store and bringing beehives to campus.
The association also unanimously appointed sophomore political communications major Elias Romanos as the Deputy Chief Justice and junior marketing communications major Hilary Fan — the SGA treasurer — as the Board of Trustees Representative.
Packets for candidates who want to run in this semester’s special election were due Tuesday at noon. Positions that still do not have candidates are senators for the journalism and writing, literature, and publishing departments and the class of 2017 treasurer. Students interested in these positions may instead initiate a write-in campaign.
