Emerson students produce award-winning commercial

A group of Emerson students received an advertising award at the 54th Annual Hatch Awards, an event for creative branding and marketing in the New England area.

Julian Cohen, a senior visual and media arts major who is currently studying in Emerson Los Angeles, was a co-producer of the winning Powerade Olympic Speculation commercial. He said in an interview that he credits co-producer Kelly Pylinski, director Zach Bernstein and creative director David Dominguez, all Emerson students, for the commercial’s success.

Their commercial took home the bronze in the Student Single Entry category of the Hatch Awards.

The award show began in 1960, when members of the greater Boston advertising community came together to honor their peers in TV, digital, mobile, and, now, web-based content.

According to Cohen, the whole commercial was shot in less than a day in Emerson’s gym and Cabaret. He praised the all-Emerson cast and crew of over 40 members for getting the project done in a timely manner.

“The timing worked out really well,” said Cohen. “I don't know a lot of other crews that could have done this.”
