Sopranos actor to speak at forum; Spirit Week postponed

Two college-sponsored events have fallen through in the short weeks since the semester began, but one has managed to remain intact.

Actor Joe Pantoliano will be speaking at a forum in the Greene Theater in the Tufte Performance Center this Friday at 3 p.m.

Pantoliano is known for his Emmy-winning role on iThe Sopranosi, as well as movies such as iThe Matrix/i and iMemento/i.

Performing Arts professor Craig Mathers said the forum will benefit students looking for work in the entertainment industry.

"[Pantoliano] is a highly regarded actor in the industry," Mathers said. "Any tips or secrets he could tell students about making their way in the industry would be valuable."

Two other well-known names in entertainment canceled their QA session at the Majestic Theater last week.

iSouth Park/i creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, booked for the event "South Park Live: A Conversation with Matt Stone and Trey Parker" backed out of their visit due to scheduling issues. The Office of Public Affairs said the visit will be rescheduled.

The cancellation was followed by the news that the first Student Government Association-sponsored spirit week, which was scheduled to begin Feb. 2, has been postponed indefinitely. Committee co-chair Jenn Barry said the postponement is the result of SGA's late approval for the event committee, which gave her little time to plan the week's festivities.

"We want to make sure it will be the best it can be since it's the first one ever," she said.
