The players on the Emerson women's softball team knew they had made some crucial mistakes in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday. As a result, the team suffered its first conference loss of the season. Since they were playing against the defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular-season champion Rivier College, second baseman Katie Hartman knew they had to step up.
During a tight contest against Westfield State College, Emerson women's lacrosse player Katie Peters didn't realize she was doing anything out of the ordinary. The two teams were in a heated battle, neck-and-neck all the way in a physical game that was forced into overtime.
Emerson's baseball team has only played one game this season at Sartori Stadium, the newly-renovated field in East Boston scheduled to be the home park for the Lions. Last Saturday's game against Daniel Webster College was postponed when the lights malfunctioned and the team is anxious to get on the new turf field.
The co-ed intramural volleyball tournament that was supposed to have taken place Sunday night in the Piano Row Gymnasium was cancelled due to the small number of people that signed up to participate, according to tournament organizer Craig LeTourneau. LeTourneau, who serves as the head coach of both the women's volleyball team and the men's team that is due to begin competition in Spring 2009, said that only two teams signed up in advance of the slated 6 p.
