FACTORY GIRL; now playing AT KENDALL SQUARE CINEMA
Sienna Miller leads an all-star cast in this partly fictional biopic about 1960s model and Andy Warhol muse Edie Sedgwick. She was discovered by Warhol, who quickly made her the star of his films and helped her become a media phenomenon and a beloved starlet. Warhol is portrayed by the talented Guy Pearce (Memento), and a character based on Bob Dylan, with whom Edie falls in love, is played by the hit-or-miss Hayden Christensen. There has been a lot of buzz about this movie, but mostly surrounding certain controversies about the Dylan relationship and a sex scene between Christensen and Miller; the film itself is nothing to call home about.
GHOST RIDER; in theatres FEB. 16
Nicolas Cage is a bit old to be playing a superhero, and at 43, he certainly shouldn't star as a crime-fighting biker with a flaming skull in a film based on a mildly popular Marvel Comics character. He dons a bad hairpiece and has an unlikely romantic interest (Eva Mendes), who is far better looking than he is at this stage of the game. His smarmy sense of humor doesn't help either, and you can't help but wonder why he was cast in this movie that was probably doomed from the start. The digital effects look bizarrely subpar, and will probably fail to impress all but the eager middle-schoolers who will praise anything with booms, bangs, and babes.
