Dear Editor,
The Student Government Association (SGA) had to follow a formal process for accepting appeals, in which the representative of an organization must present a proposal and a budget outline for using the money that they wish to receive.
A representative must also appear at an SGA meeting to briefly give us information on what their organization does and how it relates to Emerson students.
While the SGA tries to do its best to help out all of Emerson, it is important that the appeals process remain formal to promote fair and responsible spending of money. Many senators and voting representatives expressed remorse over the motion to donate to the scholarship fund not passing but believed that the SGA would later hear a formal appeal, and that things could be taken from that point on. To date, we still have not received a formal appeal from the scholarship fund, but we would hope they have the resiliency to follow up.
We would like to remind everyone that SGA meetings are open to the public, including The Berkeley Beacon staff. Finally, the SGA cannot operate well without the support of its constituents, so be sure to contact your representatives with your concerns.
