Lions purr-fect in conference

Last week, the Lions' softball team dismantled Southern Vermont College and Johnson and Wales University to jump out to a 10-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) record.
In the process, the team outscored its GNAC counterparts 66-9 over the four games.
On Friday afternoon it was business as usual for the Lions, as the team faced a struggling Daniel Webster College squad.
The Eagles came to Boston for a double-header and would exit as the Lion's latest victim on the team's early season warpath.
In game one, the Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, before unloading on the Eagles in the second.
Sophomore centerfielder Mallory Moretti began the second inning with a single and proceeded to steal two bases. Junior Jodie Jordan knocked in three runs with a double in an explosive second inning and sophomore Lindsay DeStefano added a two-run homerun the following inning to put the Lions up 10-0.
Before the game finished, the Lions found themselves on top of the scrap heap at 15-0.
The second half of the double header featured one of the Lions' freshmen on the mound and another generous helping of run support.
Pitcher Tricia Carrabba took the mound for the second straight Friday afternoon against the deflated Eagles squad. Carrabba breezed through the first inning unscathed before doing some damage at the plate.
In the bottom of the first, the Lions plated eight runs, three of which came off the strength of a three-run homerun by Carrabba. DeStefano would make her presence known in the second half of the double header as well, when she hit two home runs, accounting for five runs batted in.
The Emerson squad cruised to another one-sided final, defeating Daniel Webster 23-0 and finishing the sweep.
Lions' Head Coach Phil McElroy said he has continued to be impressed by his team's early season performance.
"We're getting better with every game," McElroy said. "We're definitely a very talented group of players, probably one of the best teams we've ever had at the school."
