Letters to the Editor
Issue date: 10/20/05 Section: Letters to the editor
Accolades all around
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter to formally thank The Beacon for its article entitled "Come one, come all to Emerson's fall theatre" from the Oct. 6 edition.
Specifically, I want to thank The Beacon for mentioning the Musical Theatre Society's Jazz Cabaret festival in that article.
That festival of wonderful music and great food was held last Sunday.
At the event, the Musical Theatre Society (MTS), under the leadership of Adam Thompson, put on a great show and raised a lot of money for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort.
As a member of the Committee on Katrina who helped collect donated clothes, I was proud to see so many organizations working together for such a good cause.
Along with MTS and the Committee on Katrina, the event was also supported by the Emerson Democrats, the Organizational and Political Communication Department and the Multicultural Center.
It was a great success and I was proud to be a part of it, but the greatest accolades should be given to Adam Thompson, the president of MTS, who was in charge of organizing the entire evening.
Through work such as this, Emerson College continues to promote community service and public service throughout our world. Again, I thank The Beacon for writing about the event and I thank all of those who participated in what was a very successful evening.

Importance of motherhood
Dear Editor,
I'd like to respond to the article Lauren Yergeau wrote about mothers leaving the workforce.
This subject has received so much publicity in the past few years, and I have read The New York Times' piece "The Opt-Out Revolution" by Lisa Belkin, as well as another article from three years back in Time Magazine about the whole "Babies versus Career" debate.
My mom stayed home for 16 years before returning to work so I know and have experienced how important it is to have a parent home, especially at the start of adolescence, not just for the first five years of a child's life.
