The nominations for the 31st EVVY Awards were announced yesterday and recognized student work across the college's departments.
The EVVY Awards ceremony, held May 12 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre, prides itself on its website as the "largest student-produced, multi-camera, live switch event in the nation." The main reception celebrates work in Broadcast, Behind the Scenes, Theater, Performance, and Film.
Prizes for Journalism, Marketing and Advertising, Writing, Communication Studies, and Digital Media are given out at the EVVY Awards Banquet, held April 28 at the Bill Bordy Theater.
With seven nominations, Kate Spalla earned the most of any individual. She was recognized as a contender for awards that spanned the Journalism, Digital Media, and Broadcast sections. Last year, Spalla took home the EVVY for Outstanding Photojournalism.
Darling: A New Musical proved a serious force in the Theater section, earning a nod in six of the seven Theater categories. The show, which was produced through Retrop Productions and Rareworks, also boasts a nomination in all four stage performance categories. It has 10 nominations in total.
The Berkeley Beacon grabbed eight nominations: three for Outstanding Photojournalism, two for Outstanding Review, one for Outstanding Web Design, one for Outstanding News Article, and one for Outstanding Sports Article.
