If there's one stereotype about debaters that rings true, it's that they've got a way with words, a finesse for language, a gift for gab.
True to form, Emerson's Speech and Debate Team used those skills to talk their way to the National Forensic Association's competition in Nashville this past weekend, with sophomore Meredith Constant making it past quarter- and semi-finals to rank sixth in the After-Dinner Speaking category, a form modeled after traditional persuasive and humorous speeches given after dinner parties.

In the tradition of mock-documentary film making, life and art imitate one another freely, often with hilarious results. For Jim Cummings and Derek Smith, art and life became one in the same.
The pair are behind the wry mockumentary Spacerock, about a pair of students who pitch a sci-fi romance movie to their college's student film association, but are rejected and forced to produce the film independently.

There's this old slogan that you can still spot on wrinkled t-shirts and the backs of beat-up cars. "Kill Your Television," it reads.
I've mulled this graying exhortation a lot lately, marveling at how archaic it has become. A hybrid of two vaguely related impulses-hippie back-to-basics and Luddite technophobia-the plea now seems so dated that it might as well read, "Kill Your Horseless Carriage.

With wobbly legs, woozy stomachs and foggy heads, some Emerson students spent Patriots Day trekking 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston with some 25,000 others, all on foot. Some chased celebrity cyclist Lance Armstrong, others ran with friends and loved ones, but all interviewed aimed to complete the 112th Boston Marathon for sentimental reasons.

Emerson men's baseball players Kent Anderson and Brendan Lahr found themselves in the thick of a tight contest against Mitchell College on April 14. With the Lions clinging to a slim lead, the primary objective in the minds of the two players was not to make a mistake to cost their team the game.

Last week, the NBA's Atlanta Hawks scheduled time in Emerson College's gym in Piano Row for practice on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, preventing the out-of-season soccer team from reserving a time to scrimmage.
While the professional team cancelled two days before their allotted time, other students have experienced difficulties scheduling the space when competing with other teams
"It feels like we are low on the radar if we are not in season," said Greg Epstein, a junior TV/video major and striker for Lion's soccer.

The Emerson Athletics Department will be sponsoring a co-ed intramural basketball tournament in the Piano Row Gymansium at 6 p.m. on April 30. It will be the second of its kind to take place this school year, after a similar event was held in December.
This time around, however, a number of rule changes have been made to the format.

However, on the night of April 16, the Bill Bordy Theater and Auditorium housed all of them and more, thanks to Emerson's Communication, Politics and Law Association and the Emerson Democrats.
